I stumbled through the door, wiping tears from my eyes.
the phone didn't give me even a moments rest as it started to ring when I walked through the door. I sighed, trying to compose myself before reaching for it, and picking up.
"STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER," My friend yelled at me, causing me to drop the phone. "What are you talking about Alexis?" I said, picking the phone up and holding it a couple inches away from my head. I heard her sigh before she continued in a reasonable volume.
"I'm sorry, it's just that... Rubes told me about what happened... with him breaking up with you. I was worried, because, well, remember back then, whenever you got upset? You always played a scary game. You were so addicted to them..." I sighed this time, sitting down at my computer desk and trying to keep my voice even. "I'm not playing anything, okay? I was going to bed. Don't worry about me. I may have thought I needed it after... my sister died... but I know better now. Just... enjoy your party." I hung up, and logged onto my computer.
I shivered as I waited for the machine to load a game I had wanted to try for awhile, Amnesia. I didn't want to move though, so I just glared at my short, strapless blue party dress and rubbed my arms. My converse also stayed on, and my hair twisted up. It didn't seem necessary to change, so i didn't.
The game finally started up, and I started looking though some levels. When I was about halfway through, a message popped up onto the side of the screen grabbing my attention.
Code overridden, hack enabled. Forbidden level 'In the Dark' now accessible. I groaned, a little upset that the last game my sister had played before disappearing, she had hacked.
I clicked on the level, and it booted up, my character in a cell. I shook my head, disappointed. "Seriously? A cell? Is that the best you could do?" I asked it, looking around. I tried to move towards the door, but the game kept glitching up, eventually freezing right as I reached it. I hit the escape key, trying to make sure nothing would happen to my computer, but nothing happened. I hit it a couple more times, a little worried. The screen faded to black, and red words appeared.
There is no escape...
Startled and more than a little freaked out, i hit the escape button again and again, until a searing pain raced across the back of my head, and I passed out.
I opened my eyes slowly, my head still hurting. I looked around, and then sat up, panicking. I was on a small mattress which took up half of the cell I was in. The same cell from the game. I curled up, rocking back and forth, trying to convince myself it was all a dream. I couldn't shake the feeling it wasn't though.
After awhile, I calmed down enough to notice a small piece of paper. I uncurled and went to pick it up, reading the neat cursive handwriting.
Hello little girl. We've been waiting for you. Welcome to Brennanburg, the castle of Amnesia. Let's hope you survive. Good luck, and remember, there is no escape.
I crumpled up the unsigned note in my hand. "I am not little!" I said, getting up and shoving the door in anger. To my surprise, It opened. "Okay then..." I said, walking out.
I started down the corridor ahead of me, wrapping my arms around myself. I wish I had changed after Alexis' party, as the castle was probably close to freezing. As I walked down the corridor, I checked the rooms. I found a lantern, oil, a couple tinderboxes, and some vials full of liquid. Finally in the last room, I found a bag to keep it all in. Packing my stuff, I started to hear screaming. I backed as far away from
the door as I could get as it came nearer...
